Cereal Cereal Cereal

Our kitchen is being overrun by cold cereal! We have this habit of buying too much cereal...because 1) There is always at least one kind on sale, 2) We like a large variety, and 3) We don't ever want to run out! Dan likes to have it as a midnight snack occasionally. And it is very handy if you don't want to fix dinner.

I think we've only run out of cereal probably once in our nearly five years of marriage.

At this very moment, we have the following cereals, primarily on top of our fridge, with a few boxes in our cupboards:

  • Cheerios
  • Rice Crispies
  • Honey Bunches of Oats
  • Rice Chex
  • Wheat Chex
  • Corn Chex
  • Kix
  • Frosted Mini Wheats
  • Lucky Charms (I find these gross)
  • Peanut Butter Cap'n Crunch (even worse. and Dan bought 3 boxes because it was a 3 for $5 sale!)
  • Special K Cinnamon & Pecan Crunch (this kind is delicious!)

Luckily we finished off a few other kinds recently before replacing them, thus creating a bit more room in our kitchen:
  • Honey Nut Cheerios
  • Kashi Go Lean! Crunch! (or whatever that is called)
  • Quaker Ohs
  • Puffed brown rice

These are in addition to the hot cereal we have on hand. Just two kinds right now:
  • Quaker Old Fashioned Oats (I am always an Old Fashioned variety fan. Never Quick Oats. The better texture by far makes up for the two extra minutes they take to cook!)
  • Cream of Wheat

Do you think that is a little outrageous? Or is it normal to have 10 - 15 kinds of cereal at one time in your house?

At least we can write it up as food storage...though it definitely won't last two years!

  1. Right now we have honey nut Cheerios, MultiGrain Cheerios, Chocolate Cheerios, Coco puffs, Frosted mini wheats and we also have Quaker Old Fashioned Oats (the Costco size box) and there are only 2 of us. So I think you are way inside the sane limit. :)

  3. We're the same way! Josh and Owen both have to have their cold cereal for breakfast. We had a bunch of boxes in the house already, but I bought 2 more at the store today because it was our favorite kind (Life) on sale! And it's hard to pass up a good sale. :)

  4. Our tastes are very similar. I remember Dan and all his brothers most with a bowl of cereal in their hands. Anytime of the day or night.

  5. Dan's dad always has a bowl of cereal late at night for a snack. So it is genetics maybe???
Growing up there was always about 10 choices-picky picky kids- everyone had their fav.

  6. My Grandad used to have a collection like that at his house. It was something we were always excited about when we went for a visit.
