Time to Get Up!

My wonderful husband has been getting up with Violet when she wakes at night. She has been quite the little stinker lately--waking up multiple times at multiple hours and refusing to go back to sleep. Dan is pretty firm about no babies in our bed until dawn. Then he brings Violet into our bed so I can nurse her and he can try to salvage some of his stolen sleep.

Well, Violet used to fall back asleep after nursing, but lately she has decided that she wants to get up and play after she eats. So, she begins her routine of trying to get us up to play. (I am usually too amused by what she is doing to Dan to even think about going back to sleep.)

First, she pokes at our eyes. Crawling over both of us and looking at our faces, her little fingers point to our eyes--closer, and closer, until, POKE! If that doesn't work, she'll start grabbing our noses (the unfortunate experience is when she pokes her finger UP the nose). Daddy's ears also look quite inviting to her. She likes to scoot around his head until she has a good angle, and then she'll SUCK on his ears! Another favorite is putting her mouth to whatever available skin is in her reach--our arms, cheeks, whatever--and blowing. It is quite the slobbery experience. If Daddy is still not up by this time (he usually has a pillow over his face for protection), she'll stand up next to him and start yelling. Poor Dan usually isn't too happy, but it sure gives me and Violet a good laugh :).

  1. Haha! What a cute girl! Poor Dan, he sounds like a good sport :). I sure hope this waking up thing doesn't last long. Hope you're feeling well.

  3. I love when babies are so playful in the wee hours of the morning, when they have full bellies and their parents all to themselves. This time with Violet is so precious; it won’t last very much longer.
